Review, from a RVN - St Ives, Cambridgeshire [In the Spring of 2025]
Recently we have been transporting a few animals from a wonderful Vet Practice in Cambridgeshire, to either Animals In Need or Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital, for ongoing care. There is an especially committed RVN at the practice, Rhiannon, who is just wonderful and always does all that she can to help wildlife. Recently she said to me, "I'm just glad I have a group that can help, otherwise this wouldn't have been possible and he [a poorly pigeon] likely would have been put to sleep otherwise [because of being too far from rescues to move the bird on]."
I asked Rhiannon if she would write us a kind of 'review' to help share about the way that UKWT is trying to ensure a second chance - where possible - for every wildlife casualty & orphan.
Thank you, Rhiannon, not just for the review but for ALL you quietly do, behind the scenes, to give every wildlife casualty that you can a chance at a new wild existence...
Below is the review...
"As a veterinary nurse we can see many different species of wildlife brought into practice, but unfortunately not all make it to release. One of the main reasons for this is that there isn't always a rescue or rehabber who can take the casualty locally.
But due to UK Wildlife Transporters this has changed. I have worked closely with this team and been able to save many more of our local wildlife as we have been able to get them to an appropriate rescue that we wouldn't have been able to before.
So far this month my practice has taken in two birds who before might have been euthanised as we were not able to get them to a rescue locally who could look after them.
I am glad as a veterinary nurse to have this resource as, before, saving these animals wouldn't have been possible."
