We will be in touch within 72hrs of your name appearing in our database to give you the option to purchase these carriers yourself or have them donated to you.

WHY DO OUR UKWT VOLUNTEER DRIVERS REQUIRE THESE EXACT CARRIERS?

As UKWT is a transport specific organisation for wildlife, we are held to account very strictly - and rightly - by the Animal Welfare Act.

We have to be able to show that by transporting a wildlife casualty, we are minimising suffering by getting them to care.

To prove that we are putting the welfare of the wildlife casualties first, I have had to go to the extent of using very particular & vet approved carriers, to ensure we are using the best containers to minimise the suffering of the casualty during transport as much as possible and not unnecessarily inflicting more pain/discomfort.  [We have had to consider & research such topics as where holes/vents should be in our transport containers to make sure that we don’t run the risk of catching wings and ensuring that mice etc can't chew through areas of the boxes during transport etc.]

UKWT has an extensive operational & welfare policy, drafted for us - after a great deal of research of current laws & legislation - by Advocates For Animals.  This guides us on all of our operating procedures.

If I allow people to use different containers to the ones that have now been vet approved, I’m actually opening up opportunities for accusations of low welfare practices & even potential prosecution (it’s extremely unlikely, but still a risk).
