(Required By All Volunteer Drivers)
WHY IS UKWT ASKING VOLUNTEER DRIVERS TO PURCHASE THESE SPECIFIC CONTAINERS?
At the moment, the law stipulates that ONLY wild animals/birds that are 'fit for travel' (not injured/poorly) should be transported anywhere.
We can however transport if it will minimise the suffering of a creature by getting it to medical care and that's where these containers come in...
During a journey, a wildlife casualty will be suffering (they will be poorly/injured) and they will be afraid. These containers are vet approved specifically for UKWT (in writing) for their size, dimensions and placement of vents to ensure the best care for wildlife casualties during journeys. (There is a large and a small container for smaller/larger mammals/birds).
If we DO NOT use these exact, vet approved containers (not any that are even similar) and a casualty does any kind of harm to itself (even as a freak incident) we could be held accountable for having inflicted suffering on that wildlife casualty during transport which would be an animal cruelty offence.
I would like to highlight that this is an absolutely, super unlikely, very worse case scenario but as I am asking 100s of Drivers to trust and volunteer for UK Wildlife Transporters, I have done all that I can to mitigate risk of any sort.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO REQUEST THAT THESE CONTAINERS BE DONATED TO YOU BY UKWT?
Volunteer Drivers signing up to transport injured/poorly wildlife casualties are sometimes able to gift their time and use of vehicle (and even fund their own fuel costs) but struggle to cover the £40 upfront costs of these 2 vet approved carriers that we have to ask them to purchase, to keep at home and to use during transport jobs.
If you're reading this and you're signing up as a new Volunteer Driver but you can't invest in the £40 outlay right now, please click on the button below to take you to a form to fill in to request that these containers are provided to you from our pot of donations.
