My ‘To Do List’…

KEEPING FOCUSED ON THE WHY/HOW: Every wild ‘person’ is important & of equal worth/matter. UKWT recognises the individual importance of our wildlife and - when they’re struggling - provides a safety net to do all that we can to get that creature to emergency care and, hopefully, a second chance.
[* In the background: keep overseeing UKWT winter wildlife transports & fundraising to keep the WCB & UKWT going & growing & arrange ‘intro chats’ with some new Drivers who are already signing up, to go through our procedures with them & allocate them to Teams. Equally, in the background, keep overseeing/running the WCB.]
To Do…
ONE:
One of our Drivers, Claire Castle, was extra brilliant this summer. We’ve had some ‘waiting to be active Driver Groups’ where we were building up the Driver numbers in some areas before we started allocating Driver Teams to local Vet Practices (to help those Practices to move on wildlife from their premises to local Wildlife Rescues).
While Claire was waiting for UKWT to formalise a team for her, she went above and beyond by working with us to start providing a ‘one person’ transport service to local Vet Practices herself, so that she could start helping wildlife straight away. It’s been on my ‘to do’ list for a while to set a template around how Claire went about it, for other Drivers to follow in the future, should they want to, as UKWT reaches out to fill the wildlife transport gap in more & more areas.
TWO:
* These Driver Teams areas are already ‘ready to be created’. [We have a few Drivers to start off LHB Rescue’s Driver Team with & just enough Drivers in these other areas already to get started: Driver Recruitment will then follow, to boost these Teams before Spring 2026]…
Laxey House Bird Rescue: set up Drivers Team.
Provide Drivers Teams to the 6 Vet Practices in Bristol & Bath that have used UKWT to move wildlife on from them, this summer (so that they have access to the support that they need, next summer).
Reach out to & provide Drivers Teams to Vet Practices in Surrey, Hampshire & West Sussex.
Reach out to & provide Drivers Teams to Vet Practices in West London & Berkshire.
AND…
Fundraise for & run Driver Recruitment Adverts: almost doubling our Driver Database, from almost 300 to 500 Drivers… FROM this bigger Database I need to boost all of our current Wildlife Rescue / Vet Practice Teams.
Fundraise for & run Driver Recruitment Adverts: almost doubling our Driver Database, from almost 300 to 500 Drivers… FROM this bigger Database I need to boost Driver numbers in these areas particularly - Southport, Kent, Dorset, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Manchester, Somerset, Suffolk, Scotland, Leeds, Sheffield & Cardiff - to THEN reach out to local Vet Practices in these areas, to offer Driver Teams, in advance of Spring 2026.
Fundraise for & run Driver Recruitment Adverts: almost doubling our Driver Database, from almost 300 to 500 Drivers… FROM this bigger Database I need to provide Drivers Teams to more Wildlife Rescues - who match our criteria - who have been in touch recently to request one.
[I thought I'd share a pic of my scribbly, messy notes...]
