Behind The Scenes: Being There, Just In Case...

I’ve just spent the last 35mins accepting a transport request from a Wildlife Hospital for an injured rat, reaching out to kind Drivers, arranging for one to transport the rat to the Hospital & then phoning the Finder (twice) to help them to get the little one more contained in a secure box, to be ready for when our Driver arrives to pick up.

Sadly, while on the phone to the Finder the second time (who had left little Rattie for a while) it was realised that they had passed away from their injuries, so I asked the Wildlife Hospital to advise him on what to do with the body.

If the little one had survived the afternoon, they would have been got to emergency care, because of the work that UKWT, myself & our fab Drivers do: 2 different Drivers offered to give up their Mother’s Day afternoons, to go and pick up the furry person.

This is the work that happens behind the scenes, running UK Wildlife Transporters. (A couple of days ago, I helped to advise on a Robin who was found very poorly indeed, making sure the most informed decisions were made as to their care, and that the Vet Practice who took the little one in had access to an expert to advise on triaging & assessing).

That same day, I also helped to organise a Rescue space for an orphaned baby bunny and we had a kind Driver lined up, to transport the little one, but, brilliantly, the Vet Practice could take the youngster to the local Rescue, Wildlife Aid, themselves, in the end.

This is what it takes to 'be there, just in case' for wildlife casualties & orphans, so that as many as possible get a second chance.
