DRIVER SCRIPT...

I have created a template of what to say when you phone the Finder to give them an ETA of your arrival.  This is to ensure that wildlife ALWAYS get to medical care and don’t miss out unnecessarily…

[This is almost word for word how I spoke to 100s of Finders when coordinating, and it was very successful.  All of our Drivers have said how helpful they find it... ]

-----------

“I’ll be arriving around […..].

We have a strict protocol for picking up that we need to follow, please.  Can I confirm that you have the [animal] contained and INSIDE the home/building please?  I'm just asking this because: it needs to be in a quiet room - almost always a bathroom is best - where it can be away from all children and pets.  The [animal] will be incredibly stressed and frightened, so having it in a quiet room and left alone is absolutely key & thanks so much.

[If they say the animal is contained in a box AND in a shed and 100% refuse to budge on that, that’s fine.  It just needs to not be outside in a box because… 1. They almost always escape. 2. They are VERY likely to be predated before pick up if left outside. - If they question why it can’t be left outside in a box, explain reasons 1 and 2. If you’re uncomfortable at any point, pass it to me, Alana, and I’ll take over calling them.]

Please keep an eye out for me.  I will arrive and knock on the door.  I don’t come onto the premises for safety reasons so I’m going to hand you a carrier to take inside, for you to pop the casualty (no food and water with it) into the carrier, then just close the lid and pass the carrier back to me.  This must be done INDOORS, with the front door closed, to prevent animals escaping, and not getting to emergency care.

Thank you so much for helping this wild life.  See you soon.”
