Some More Info On How To Utilise Your Drivers...

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU'VE SENT BACK OUR GDPR FORM?

1. We invite our UKWT Drivers to choose to drive for your Vet Practice.

2. We'll let you know which local Rescues our Drivers can transport to, from your Practice (due to a lack of Wildlife Rescue regulation across most of the UK, we only transport to the proven, high welfare Rescues on this MAP).

[For example, from Pype Hayes Vet Practice our Drivers can transport to Cuan Wildlife Rescue, West Midlands Hedgehog Rescue & Vale Wildlife Hospital.  (You will be provided with the names & full addresses of all Rescues and their drop off protocols).  The MAP is still growing so as more Rescues in your areas are added, there will be more options for your Drivers to transport to.]

3. We set you up a WhatsApp group.  Included in the WhatsApp group are...  One of your staff from your Vet Practice, your new Drivers AND me (Alana, founder of UKWT).  [This takes about 10mins).

That's it, you'll be all set to go after these steps.  You then just follow our procedures to ask Drivers for transport help, to give them the info to transport the animal to the Rescue and to help keep them safe while transporting.  [See below.]

HERE'S HOW WE INVITE OUR DRIVERS TO TRANSPORT SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR VET PRACTICE...

You go onto this PAGE, with your own bespoke 'Vet Practice Advert' and Drivers use our form to request to drive for you.  That's it.  See an example advert below...

HERE'S THE PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW (LAID OUT TO BE AS QUICK AND EASY AS POSSIBLE)....

VET PRACTICE [TRANSPORT SUPPORT PROCEDURE]

Once you have confirmed with the Wildlife Rescue that they can take the animal...

Contacting your Volunteer Drivers…

Ideally, all Drivers will be in a WhatsApp group so that you can easily reach out and ask for transport support.  WhatsApp groups can be a nightmare for lots of messages - leading members to mute the chat and therefore making it unworkable - so messages must be kept to an absolute minimum…

- Message when you need transport support.

- Once a Driver has offered to help, move the conversation to a private one to one conversation where you pass the info below over to them.

- Ask the Driver to message in the WhatsApp group as to when they have dropped off the animal and when they are home safe. [They should message in the group because I will be in the group too, so I can be a back up to have an eye on everyone’s safety, while they’re on the road.]

- Thank them.

Info to give the Driver…

Rescue address and phone number and drop off info. Eg…

“You are dropping off at Cuan Wildlife rescue.  Their full address is...

FULL ADDRESS - Cuan Wildlife Rescue, The Signals, Stretton Road, Much Wenlock, Shropshire TF13 6DD

CUAN'S PHONE NUMBER - 01952 728070

Protocol for dropping off at Cuan is…

  • Go into reception, there's a bell on reception that you ring.

  • Ask them to take the casualty out of the carrier (they will take the carrier through to another room) and then they will return the carrier.”

Info, for your Driver to fill out on on behalf of the animal, when dropping off at the Rescue…

  • Finder’s name [or your Vet Practice details] -

  • Finder’s Address [this is essential as the animal may need to be released back into the same territory: it could just be a postcode] -

  • Finder’s phone number [or your Vet Practice phone number] -

  • Species of Casualty (this is a wild casualty) -

  • Any noticeable injury/illness -

  • When/Where found -

  • Has it had food/water and any medications [It is ESSENTIAL that the Rescue know about any medications]?

Looking after your Volunteer Drivers…

Ideally, all Drivers will be in a WhatsApp group so it’s super easy to keep track of a Driver (even in the back of your mind, as you go about your important work in the Vet Practice) when they’re on the road.  All you need to know is when they have dropped off the animal at the Rescue and when they are home safe.  It’s also important that the Driver has someone to contact should they break down or find themselves in any other difficulty (like the Rescue have more questions about the animal).  [I will also be in the Whatsapp group as a back up.]

Ask the Driver to let you know - in the WhatsApp group - when they have dropped off and when they are home safe.  Thank them and remind them to clean their carrier(s) using disinfectant and to hot wash all towels.
